h 1959/ 60 vintage M14 slotted handguards. This short lived hand guard replaced the wooden handguard that was issued with the T44 rifle. It was reported that the heat from rapid fire produced heat waves above the barrel. The 14 slot handguard was replaced with the more familiar solid guard in 1960.
