Model 1884 US Springfield trap door rifle. The serial number is close to the end of the production of this type of rifle and could have been issued in the early part of the century to state units in action in the Philippines. The rifle is in very good condition with approximately 60% plus original finish. No rust or pitting, all markings are sharp and distinct. The bore is bright and shiny. The stock has no cracks or issues. Interesting history on this rifle. A marking next to the barrel tang W.CCO stands for the Western Cartridge Company. These are the people that rented firearms to the movie industry in the early part of the last century. The trapdoor rifle offered here has undoubtedly been in many many western movies through the first half of the 20th century. An original period leather sling is included.
